Leaded Bronze
Leaded Bronzes (CC491K) also known as LG2, leaded tin bronze or leaded gunmetal, usually provide a good balance of corrosion resistance and strength whilst offering better machining characteristics than other bronze alloys. Leaded gunmetal bronze is readily available at Prestige Metal Supplies and, compared to other bearing alloys, is less expensive.
The substantial lead content of CC491K material gives it excellent machining qualities with medium strength and good pressure tightness. It is also not subject to dezincification which makes it useful in marine environments. LG2 gunmetal is a general-purpose leaded gunmetal that conforms to the requirements BS1400 – 1985 alloy LG2.
LG2 has excellent resistance to superheated steam applications and has reasonable corrosion resistance to brine and seawater. This makes it the perfect fit for pressure-tight pump and valve components, pump impellers, fittings and general engineering applications.
Leaded Bronze (CC491K) Applications
LG2 gunmetal is a medium-strength alloy and is the most commonly used leaded gunmetal. It is ideal for use where components with pressure-tight properties are required such as hydraulic fittings. Leaded gunmetal bronze is also suited to the production of light load bearings that function at medium speeds. Other applications of CC491K include:
- Pipes and elbows
- Taps and cocks
- Valve bodies
- Pump bodies
- Architectural decorative fixtures
- Marine hardware
- Electrical switches and hardware
Prestige Metal Supplies stocks LG2 in a wide range of forms including leaded bronze bar in the following profiles – flat bar, round bar, square bar, hexagon bar and hollow rod. The solid leaded bronze bars and rods we supply are available in a range of sizes from ½” to 8” in diameter. You can choose custom lengths for your leaded bronze profiles that can be cut to your specifications in-house. We also stock LG2 in sheet and plate forms.
