Tellurium Oxygen Free Copper (CW118C/C14500/C109)

Prestige Metal Supplies provide a wide range of C14500/CW118C high-quality oxygen-free machining rods and flats. Our Tellurium Copper includes the careful addition of Tellurium to the copper significantly improving the machining speed to 80% and above when compared to leaded brass making it up to four times faster machining than pure copper. Standard copper in comparison usually only reaches around 20%. By introducing tellurium to this free-machining copper, C14500 copper, or C109 as it is otherwise known, the machinability is raised considerably without any impact on conductivity or ductility. C14500 Free machining copper is also not susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement and has a good hot and cold workability making it ideal for testing environments.

Properties of Tellurium Copper

Whilst increasing machining speeds for ease, the small addition of Tellurium also only reduces the thermal conductivity slightly to around 93-94% which makes it very suitable for close-tolerance high-voltage connectors. In addition to this, Tellurium Copper also has an easy solder ability and decent levels of corrosion resistance to make it an extremely useful material for a range of demanding uses.

Tellurium Copper Bar

Prestige Metals provides round bar Tellurium Copper from stock at 3mm -100mm diameter. Flat Tellurium Copper bars from 100-200mm wide and up to 50mm thick are also supplied.

Tellurium Copper Frequently Asked Questions

What is Tellurium Copper?

Tellurium Copper is pure copper with the addition of Tellurium in order to increase machining speeds. Unlike other alloys, Tellurium Copper does not see a large reduction in thermal conductivity making it a fantastic oxygen free machining copper for high-voltage connectors.

What is Tellurium Copper Used for?

Tellurium Copper is typically used for electrical components that require a high level of difficult machining. Some examples of uses of Tellurium Copper include:

  • Electrical switches for power semi-conductors
  • Transformer and circuit breaker terminals
  • Gas cutting nozzles
  • Contacts
  • Clamps
  • Electrical connector pins
  • Nuts & bolts

What Are the Properties of Tellurium Copper?

Tellurium Copper is an excellent material whilst its oxygen-free nature gives a range of properties ideal for situations that require high conductivity. Some properties of Tellurium Copper include:

  • Good machinability
  • Good level of corrosion resistance
  • Easy solder ability
  • High thermal conductivity
